Car History

The Volkswagen Beetle, officially the Volkswagen Type 1, and in parts of the English-speaking world the Bug, is a two-door, five-passenger, rear-engine economy car that was manufactured and marketed by German automaker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003.

The originating concept behind the first Volkswagen, the company, and its name, is the notion of a people's car, a car affordable and practical enough for common people to own. Hence the name, which is literally "people's car" in German.

We have a 1957 VW Beetle with the oval rear window here at Adventure Classics that is a pure joy and so fun to drive, and everybody loves her.

Engine & Drivetrain

Our very original 1957 VW has what appears to be the original engine that runs good and the transmission shifts well. The original 25 hp Beetle was designed for a top speed around 62 mph, which would be a viable speed on the Reichsautobahn system but from 1954 and up, Volkswagen added 2 mm to the cylinder bore, increasing the displacement from 1,131 cc to 1,192 cc.

This increased power from to 36 hp and improved the engine's free revving abilities without compromising torque at lower engine speeds.

It rides on original steel white body painted rims with black wall tires and it looks period correct.

Interior

The VW retains a period correct original looking interior with white twin front bucket seats with red piping and a matching rear seat, white painted dash and steering wheel, red/white door panels, carpeting, cup holder, and the manual transmission long black VW floor shifter.

In front of the windshield is a great aqua-blue sunshade to keep the sun's glare off your eyes and a roof rack to hold luggage or suitcases if you want to travel in her.

Exterior

This is a great street driven VW that is painted in white with good body lines, trim, window glass, chrome front and rear bumpers, and side steps.

The pans are all original and the heater channels are still good and original. The fenders, hood, deck lid, and bumpers all look original to the car.

Conclusion

If you want a nostalgic VW to cruise around in, this 1957 VW Beetle with the oval rear window here at Adventure Classics is the one for you.

It is a nice looking "Peoples Car” that is has the looks and ride of an original.
