History

The second-generation Chevrolet Camaro was produced by Chevrolet from 1970 through the 1981 model years and sales for 1979 were the highest ever for any generation Camaro before or since, numbering 282,571 units.

GM engineers have said the second generation is much more of "A Driver's Car" than its predecessor. The 1979 gold Chevrolet Camaro Z28 we have here at Adventure Classics is a great example of that.

Engine & Drivetrain

Under the hood is a 350 cubic inch small block Chevrolet V8 engine rated at 255 horsepower from the factory as noted by the L code in the VIN#. This one runs and sounds great with the addition of a cam and kit, 4-barrel carb, aluminum intake, and headers making a lot more horsepower than it did stock.

It also has a dual exhaust system running out the back and the engine is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission H.D. rear end with a sway bar too.

The motor sits in a clean engine compartment and features a chrome open air and has power steering, air conditioning, power disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear with factory turbine wheels and BF Goodrich Radial TA tires.

Interior

An amazing thing about this car is that it still has the tan vinyl bucket seat interior with the factory console in great shape. It is also equipped with the matching rear seat, door panels, and factory dash with all the original gauges, factory radio and an aftermarket stereo radio system, power windows and locks, tilt factory tan Z28 steering wheel, tan carpet and floor mats, air conditioning, and the great chrome 4-speed shifter and black shifter knob sticking out of the console.

Exterior

Our Z28 has the factory front spoiler and fender flares much like its Pontiac Trans Am twin had, and now came with "Z28" decals that ran from the beginning of the front flares to the bottoms of the doors.

The gold blue paint job shows well and the decal kit is looks great. The rest of the fit and finish is great as well. All the body panels are straight and the trunk has a correct mat and space-saver tire as well. too.

It has the Z28 iconic hood, side vents, and rear spoiler that gives it so much swagger on the street.

Conclusion

This 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 we have at Adventure Classics is a car that most of us wish we could have had back then.

Well, you can have it now!
