Car History

We have a 1970 AMC Javelin SST here for sale at Adventure Classics that has been owned by the seller almost 32 years and kept in his garage.

It is an original California car (documented) that has lived in Orlando for the past 30+ years and it is the most rust free unrestored example you would ever find.

It is very rare indeed when you can find a 1970 American Motors Javelin SST that has been restored and kept to this level for sale anywhere in the country.

Engine & Drivetrain

The engine has less than 5,000 miles on the rebuild. It was originally a 304/automatic car. An engine swap has been made and it is now a 1969 390 cubic inch short block that has been bored .030 and fitted with cast Badger pistons, crank was modded to accept the Torqueflight converter hub, heads off a 1978 Matador 360 and have been fitted with new valves, Crane springs and retainers, rocker stands milled down to accept Crane Ford 1.7 ratio rocker arms, Summit cam with 214/224 andr lifters.

It is topped by an Edelbrock R4B intake with an AMC Part Number and an Edelbrock 600 CFM carb #1406 carb that's been tuned to run on today's gasoline. Ignition is via a Delco distributor with a Pertronix Ignitor III and an MSD Blaster coil (red).

Exhaust is through next gen “free flows” with full dual exhaust and it has a new timing cover and chain set, factory type fuel pump, new fuel tank, rear to front fuel line replaced, Facet Gold-Flo fuel pump, and a Mallory pre luber oil pump.

Power goes back to a Torqueflight 727 transmission that came out of the same '78 Matador as the heads and was rebuilt by a local Orlando specialist some years ago, and works perfectly. It sports a TCI torque converter and deep aluminum pan and is shifted by the original '70 shifter.

The rear end was completely rebuilt rear end last year with a complete rear axle and installed a 3.54 gear set, new posi, Dr. Diff one piece axles, all brand new brakes, shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders, and drums.

The brakes have a Reman booster, new master cylinder, and a Kelsey Hayes front disc conversion and it rides on 14x6 “Magnum” wheels with correct AMC center caps and like new BF Goodrich 215/70 14's Radial TA's tires.

Interior

The interior consists of a set from a '74 Javelin that have been recovered in black perforated vinyl with door panels and headliner recovered as well, Legendary carpet set, all gauges from Auto Meter like the 160 mph Speedo, 8K tach, oil pressure, vacuum, fuel level, engine temp and volt meter.

It has real mahogany wood overlays on dash and console, aftermarket radio and speakers, new retractable shoulder belts in front and new lap belts in rear from Juliano's, and a tilt steering column and sport steering wheel.

It also has a modern Vintage Air heat/cool/defrost unit with a Sanden compressor that blows cold with a low 40 degree output through the two center factory outlets, one eyeball outlet at the lower right of the dash, and a vent under the steering wheel.

Exterior

The exterior paint job is the original Big Bad Orange color that has been repainted. The bumpers have been re-chromed and the rear bumper has the factory style bumper guards.

These cars did not have wheel well moldings but a set from an early 1967 Camaro have been made to fit and they look pretty good. All glass is good and the windshield has been replaced.

The paint scheme looks very aggressive and has great body lines flowing over the Ram Air hood scoop and is set off by the black side stripes too.

Conclusion

This 1970 AMC Javelin SST we have here for sale at Adventure Classics was owned by the current owner almost 32 years and was an original California car. It has been restored and modified and will make you a nice AMC muscle car for a long time.
