1955 Studebaker President Speedster

Car History

The Studebaker President Speedster was a halo car, designed to drum up interest in the entire Studebaker lineup with its innovative features.

Sold in relatively small numbers when it was new, today they're highly-sought collectables for just that reason and we have one here at Adventure Classics as a project car with only 37k miles and a lot of originality for you to finish to your liking.

Engine & Drivetrain

Ours has what looks to be the original (we didn't try to start it) 259 cubic inch V8 engine which was the top engine for Studebaker in '55, so it's great to still see that correct displacement under the hood in this President.

When it was new this engine provided the kind of torque to make this a smooth cruiser, and that's exactly what you want on a classic sedan like this backed by the three-speed automatic transmission.

Our engine also has an Offenhauser aluminum intake and valve covers, 2-barrel carb, and factory cast iron exhaust manifolds.
Even the original wheels and hubcaps are still on the Stude with modern whitewall tires.

Interior

The Speedster was presented as a driver's car, and the passenger compartment is one of the first truly driver-oriented interiors. It has a lot of originality to it with what seems to be the original seat covers on the factory folding split bench seat, an engine-turned dash full of highly legible gauges, factory steering wheel, matching carpet, and door panels.

The engine-turned dash is one of the rarest components of the Speedster, and one of the few unique parts on it, so finding one is both expensive and time-consuming.

The original AM radio remains in the dash as well as the chrome tissue dispenser, even the trunk carries an original-style mat.

Exterior

These Studes are recognized with their striking two-tone color schemes on the gorgeous Raymond Loewy-designed bodywork.
The dazzling Speedster design elements remain like the chrome bumpers front and rear, the factory colors of Rose Pewter over Ivory, with the original workmanship being outstanding.

And, of course, there's a ton of bright trim including all the window surrounds. It's really quite impressive and can be restored to all its original luster.

Conclusion

We have an extremely impressive 1955 Studebaker President Speedster here at Adventure Classics that is a highly-sought collectable that you can finish. It has a lot of originality, has only 38k miles on the title, is undercoated so no rust underneath, and is an under-appreciated collector's item to put in your garage.
