1969 Chevrolet El Camino SS Tribute
Car History
Chevrolet El Camino was a coupe utility vehicle that was produced by Chevrolet between 1959–1960 and 1964–1987. Unlike a pickup truck, the El Camino was adapted from a two-door station wagon platform that integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body.
The 1969 El Camino SS 396 Tribute, like the one we have here at Adventure Classics, received sheet metal revisions back then that gave the bodies a more squared-up stance and the interiors were also redesigned. A lot of collectors think the 1969 El Camino is the most desirable body style of all.
Engine & Drivetrain
Under the hood is a big block Chevrolet 454 cubic inch engine, that has been decaled as a 427 on the open element chrome air cleaner, that has gobs of torque and horsepower.
The engine has chrome factory valve covers, Edelbrock aluminum intake, dual-line Holley performance carb, in-line fuel filter, red performance spark plug wires, tube headers leading back to the dual exhaust system, power steering, power brakes, and all sitting in a very clean, detailed, and restored engine compartment.
All this power gets to the ground through GM's sturdy three-speed automatic transmission on its way to the stout 12-bolt rear end and rolls on a set of black and polished 5-spoke aftermarket mag wheels shod with raised white letter BF Goodrich performance radial TA's.
Interior
The interior is exactly what you want to see, a well restored presentation in a deep black with its twin front bucket seats, matching door panels and headliner, SS dual-spoke steering wheel, factory dash with the round gauge package including the factory tach, and horseshoe shifter in the center console.
There is also a stereo radio, auxiliary gauge trio, nice carpet and sill plates that make this a super-nice cockpit.
Exterior
Nothing looks more sinister as a black/black/black El Camino SS 396 with black wheels and our deep black paint provides an instant attraction with the white side stripes and SS 396 emblems as does the black vinyl top.
Add to that the double power bulge hood, blacked-out grille, proper SS badging, and Mag-style wheels make for an awesome Super Sport replica. There is also great details everywhere from the classic chrome bumpers to the bedliner in the bed and chrome tips on the dual exhausts.
Conclusion
The very nice 1969 Chevrolet El Camino SS 396 Tribute we have here at Adventure Classics is very well done and will make the new owner a great cruiser to add to the collection. It is a very strong runner and looks and sounds great too.
