1980 GMC Caballero
Car History
GMC's Caballero was a version of Chevrolets El Camino which is a vehicle that is both a comfy sedan and a versatile pickup. GMC added extra features and styling that makes it a little different look compared to an El Camino.
We have a Dark Saxony Green 1980 GMC Caballero Diablo here at Adventure Classics that is a great example of those vehicles that has been well maintained.
Engine & Drivetrain
The largest motor available from the factory in 1980 was a 305 cubic inch V8 engine and that is what is in ours, but it has been modified and makes a lot more horsepower now as well as looking more muscular too with a three-speed automatic transmission handling the power.
The extra power and torque of the upgraded engine is because of the Edelbrock upgrade package that includes the aluminum intake and four-barrel carburetor, open element chrome air filter assembly, and tube headers, and shows better with chrome valve covers and alternator, and has power steering and brakes.
Interior
The comfortable grey velour interior has a split front bench seat that has a fold-down armrest for individual comfort, matching rear seat, headliner and carpeting, and a factory stock looking dash with all the correct factory gauges, and floor mats.
It has premium features like as cruise control, a tilt steering wheel, cold-blowing air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, and a Kenwood AM/FM stereo radio upgrade in place in the center of the dash.
Exterior
Our GMC has a great Dark Saxony Green paint job looking as new over great body panels, body-color mirrors and window trim, chrome bumpers, dual exhaust with chrome tips, a formed bed-liner paint protecting the bed, and all riding on custom polished 5-spoke wheels and performance blackwall tires with a fifth matching mag wheel and tire mounted in the trunk.
Conclusion
This Dark Saxony Green 1980 GMC Caballero Diablo we have here at Adventure Classics is a one-of-a-kind great example of a wonderful Caballero.
