1972 Mercury Cougar Convertible

Car History

During the 1970s and 1980s the Mercury Cougar was advertised as "The sign of the cat" and always considered to be more luxurious than its sister brand the Ford Mustang.

We have a beautiful and rare 1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 in red livery with a contrasting white XR7 interior and white power convertible top here at Adventure Classics.

Engine & Drivetrain

This 1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible is powered by the factory correct Cleveland 351 cubic inch V8 engine with a 2-barrel carb. It looks factory original with its factory blue air cleaner assembly, blue valve covers, factory intake, three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, front disc brakes, air conditioning and all sitting in a very clean and detailed engine compartment.

It rides on 14" factory Mercury Magnum Wheels with proper Mercury center caps, white wall radial tires, sporty suspension, and great sounding exhaust system.

Interior

The XR7 package was the top of the line for the Cougar so it is very loaded. It has white high back bucket seats, black center console, dash with wood trim and a Rally Gauge cluster with in-dash tachometer, AM/FM stereo radio system, tilt steering column, factory sport wood trim steering wheel, black carpet and Red Logo Cougar floor mats, and of course, the white power convertible top.

Exterior

Out XR7 has that correct factory Code 2B Bright Red exterior pouring over a great body with white body side molding, sequential taillights, white power convertible top with boot, great chrome front and rear bumpers, iconic Cougar grill and XR7 badging, and great trim and glass.

Conclusion

The rare 1972 Mercury Cougar we have here at Adventure Classics is a serious styled upscale XR7 convertible that is very well-preserved.

It is a great classic droptop at a good price and sure to escalate in value in the coming years.
